vscode debugger - Mac, VS Code, dotnet core 5.0 web api error when debugging: "The program '[55300] xxxxxx.dll' has exited with code 0 (0x0)."

Question

I just installed dotnet core 5.0 on a new MacBook pro and created a webapi application. I tried to debug the WeatherForecast app and got the following in the debug console:

The program '[55300] xxxxxxx.dll' has exited with code 0 (0x0).

When I run the 'dotnet run' command from the project folder the webapi works. Here is more detail from the debug console:
