java - SpelParseException while trying to bind an object to a form within a thymeleaf fragment

In my Spring application I use general page templates within which I load fragments dynamically depending on need. For the contact page I load the form as a fragment into a page template. Trying to bind an object to the form via a fragment directly (as so: th:object="${formdata}) does not work since as far as I understood Spring renames things under the hood (source: https://github.com/thymeleaf/thymeleaf/issues/583).

Following that lead I tried th:object="${__${formdata}__} but that leads to a SpelParseException I can dont't seem to find any hints for how to deal with in the very specific context.

The page the fragment is loaded into looks like this;

The relevant parts of the fragment like this;

The GET part of the controller;

And finally the really simple command object I am trying to bind;

When simply calling the form page (/site/contact-mydogspies) I get the following errors;

Well, after a bit more of trial and error I got it to work by defining the object in the th:replace tag as so;

<div th:replace="fragments/contact_fragments :: contact_page(formdata=${formdata})"></div>

Then it seems that one can simply call the object within the form tag the standard way with th:object="${formdata}"

The solution in the link mentioned above, using the pre-processor, did not work for me in any combination. But on a last note since @xserx593 suggestion put me on the right track - passing the object via th:with which I take is the up to date way of doing it, also works;

<div th:replace="fragments/contact_fragments :: contact_page" th:with="formdata=${formdata}"></div>
