oop - Modifying the logic in base class method overridden by lot of child classes

Question

Are there any rules regarding modifying a parent class method which has been overridden by lot of child classes. Is it the developer's obligation who is modifying the parent class to assess the impact of change on every subclass?

Could not find any related question in the inheritance/overriding/oop sections, hence asking.
