How to connect Strapi CMS with already made Reactjs frontend?

Question

I am working on getting my ReactJs frontend to connect to Strapi CMS with a MongoDB database. I cannot for the life of me get the cms to connect and could use some help. The frontend currently host from a JSON file contained in the public folder of the frontend application and any help on basics would be great!
