node.js - can I build a chrome extension that call an external link

Question

i need to build a chrome extension to make an api call with an application. to make the API call i need the token. to get the token I need to authenticate against application IDP. for this I need to be redirect to the HP of the application. I'm using Raect but I can use nodejs as well. i was not able to redirect to an extern URL. is it possible?
