The Problem
I'm trying to run Snort in IDS mode on a Windows 10 computer. The command I am using is:
snort -c c:snortetcsnort.conf -l c:snortlog -i 3
I keep getting this error:
ERROR: c:snortetcsnort.conf(0) Failed to parse the IP address: 224.0.0.0/224.147.92.1.
What I've tried
- Installation - followed the instructions here

- Configuration - using instructions from sites that seemed to get Snort to work on Windows. I used information from:

- Troubleshooting - very limited troubleshooting completed. The only file I've changed is the snort.conf file. I looked for these IP addresses in the file and they aren't there; I did find another Stackoverflow post on this issue. It recommended running cmd.exe as an administrator and disabling other adaptors. I am already running cmd.exe as an administrator and I don't have any other adaptors running. Another StackOverflow answer was that -i option was missing. I have that.
I have searched using Google for a list of Windows commands for Snort. This turned up empty. All the results I got were for Linux.
Questions I have
- Could this be something in the command I'm using to run Snort? Is there a good resource on Windows commands for Snort?
- Where is Snort getting this IP address? Is there another pointer? It is not in snort.conf.
- What is causing this?
