MTU frame in radius server and client

Question

Should the mtu frame in radius server and radius client be the same? I get an eap error and woth a little digging it is related to huge eap payload. Radius clients are default to 1500 mtu. My radius server is Microsoft NPS and set to 1344. I have read that the routers and fw inbetween them could mess up the packets if mtu is bigger.
