Downsides To Using WordPress For Anything Other Than Articles/Blog?

Question

working on adding more interactive content to my blog that is 100% article-based right now. Built on wordpress.org.

Is there any downside to using WordPress for the part of your site that is more interactive? like building a community forum or more interactive content that may require more complex programming, databases, etc?

Just want to know the downsides to doing this?

I don't want to build my interactive side of the site on WordPress just for convenience if it has major downsides.
