android - SubtitleView without PlayerView

Question

Is that possible to use com.google.android.exoplayer2.ui.SubtitleView for displaying subtitles from HLS stream if my fragment doesn't have com.google.android.exoplayer2.ui.PlayerView within itself? I have only exoplayer2 playing as service, so could I retrieve subtitles without PlayerView, only with SubtitleView?
