Mapbox Upload API: minzoom must be an integer between 0 and 30

Question

I've created 3 tilesets using tippecanoe, merged them into one using tile-join, and uploaded the combined tileset using the Mapbox Upload API. The upload was successful, but now I see an error in Mapbox studio:

minzoom must be an integer between 0 and 30

The error message links to a page that does not list this error.

I'm setting max and min zoom in the tippecanoe command. Given the lack of documentation of the error I'm not clear what the issue is.
