I'm trying to teach myself Wordpress development, and I set up a local site on a USB key, using xamp and portable versions of Chrome and Firefox, so that I could play around with stuff. And…it's sssssssslllllloooooooooowwwwwwww, to the point of being unusable.
Are there any faster alternatives?
Or is there a way to speed up my current setup? (xampp on Windows on a USB key)
Ideally I'm looking for something portable, independent of internet access, free or very very cheap (no more than ￡10/ year), if there is such a thing?
